Un-Cross Talk, a multi-media presentation of original Frontier Jazz songs and scores, debuted in March 2018 at MATCH Houston, and was made possible by a $10,000 grant from the Houston Arts Alliance. Below are two video excerpts.
Bell was one of the first songs I wrote for Un-Cross Talk. This excerpt is the languid intro to what will ultimately wind up at a breakneck pace.
Written for Un-Cross Talk, Moving tells the courageous story of my mother leaving my father, with five kids in tow, and one on the way; leaving him to give us a better future. This is the full song.
I co-wrote Grass Dolls with my good friend Danny Ashkenasi, as an homage to my aunt Carole, who told stories of growing up in Florida with no toys; just the long grass in the nearby field, which she and her friends braided into pretend doll hair. I was happy to give the song a home in Un-Cross Talk. This is from a trio performance at the Back Room, Berkeley, CA.
Keep up with all things Frontier Jazz.
