Open Source (a theology built on the voices of many)

Congratulations to the talented Karl Blench! Karl won second place in the 2024 Charles Ives Award in Chamber Music in the American Prize in Composition—vocal chamber music (professional division), for his composition of my libretto Open Source.

Things I've Done/or am Doing

Beth Morrison Projects Producer Academy

Sep-Nov 2024

I'm thrilled that I was among 25 artists who made up the 2024 cohort in the Beth Morrison Projects Producer Academy. The BMP Producer Academy is an 8-week boot camp designed for aspiring producers to hone their skills, whether it's producing their own work, or the work of others. I have a new artistic family of amazing music and theater creators. What a gift!

The BMP Producer Academy is tuition free thanks to support from the Mellon Foundation.

I'm writing an album called Bald

In progress

The songs are almost done.

I'm thrilled to be collaborating with Tom Lyons (art direction), Torreyanna Barley (painter/illustrator), and Nick Kanozik (visual artist) in creating the visual language for Bald. This will be a very different album release.

Next I'll be fundraising to produce the first two singles. Stay tuned!

I'm writing a musical!

In progress

It's still in the development phase. I'll just say it's historical fiction and involves time travel.

Libretto: Open Source (a theology built on the voices of many)

Mar 2024/June 2023

My first libretto, Open Source (a theology built on the voices of many). is written for string quartet and bass-baritone, and was brought to life by composer Karl Blench, performed by Houston’s Axiom Quartet, and sung by Timothy Jones. It premiered in 2023, at the First Congregational Church of Houston, and received additional funding for a repeat performance in 2024, at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Houston.

Composer in Residence | Virginia Center for the Creative Arts

Sept 2023/July 2019

Spending a month in a converted farm in Amherst, VA, in conversation with a variety of artists, was crucial to understanding myself as a composer.
